OK, this is random

Jill and I were laughing at this site where people take pictures of cats, dogs, and walruses – and write funny quotes on them. Other than the occasional crude/stupid one (consider yourself warned), many of them are hilarious. So we were browsing this page:

And halfway down, who do we see but Ubu? Yes, someone had found Ubu on our gallery album and used it! That’s him under the green carpet.

The original album

It was weird to see Ubu on the internet, more famous that we humans.

Geek Update

The last few mornings I’ve been getting up and this server is down :( Not good when you run your own websites and others, sometimes for pay! It seems the wireless connection has been turning off for apparently no good reason. Today I moved the beachball iMac into the other room where the router is and hooked it up via cable. It’s working fine now, but I’m not sure how Jill will like her computer being on the floor in a different room and not on her desk.

The weather has been great the past couple days. Ben’s long winter hibernation is over. You’ll see him emerge from his den, groggy and hungry, around this time of year. After a few days he may be found playing frisbee, hacking, shooting his wife with nerf guns, biking, and many other instinctual activities.

Jill and I have been watching episodes of “24″ recently. My theory on TV is this: it stinks. Commercials stink – getting interrupted every 10 minutes when you are watching something is annoying. You have to watch when something is scheduled to be on, unless you take the time to record it or something. Also, most shows are gratuitously violent, sexual, or crude to keep ratings up. However, once in a while there is a great show. My solution? Wait a year, wait until a friend buys the “box set” of the series, and borrow it. Or get it from the library (they have almost anything). Free entertainment. No commercials, watch when you want. The penalty is being behind a year, but I certainly don’t care. Most good shows aren’t even on anymore. Like Animaniacs :)

Showcase 2007

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Last night was Showcase 2007, the show Ben played in, and it was a pretty awesome night! It was an all day event, but we went just to the evening part, in time to see some really grood bands like Beyond Blue, the Mike Forkuo Project, and … Chad Burdick and friends! Ben did awesome!

Ben says: Everyone said they thought I sounded like Chad’s main guitarist, when we had only met ten days before the show! We played and sounded great from what I heard. For not liking country at all, it was a fun show to play. Chad is an amazing front man. We were the only country act (many were solo guitar, or heavy rock with a full band/drums) and the only band without a drummer. However, lots of people seemed to like us. Chad reminds me of singers on American Idol (a show that I avoid like the plague). In fact, he got pretty far on the country version of the show. He walks around and really engages the audience. He’s a big guy physically and had good stories about each song. All the rest of us really did was stand back and play the right notes.

After we played we saw Eric Stoltzfus (our area’s Young Life director for years and an amazing guy). There are three short video clips Jill took and three pictures that didn’t come out too blurry:

Busy-ish

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I’ve been busy the last few evenings with practice for the upcoming Showcase 2007 event in Fitchburg with the country band. We’re sounding pretty good, and tonight was at the actual place for a sound check etc. Chad (the leader of our outfit and lead singer) had a photo shoot, the bands set up their merchandise tables, bands were interviewed on camera, and Jill and I talked to lots of people, many of whom were in other bands from out of state. Yes, Jill came so I had someone to hang out with, and I was glad.

Apparently this event is geared toward showcasing these bands/artists for possible gigs in the future. It’s not really a “concert” event so much as a “band promotion” event. All the bands actually paid to play. All the proceeds are going to benefit Young Life, which is awesome.

Tomorrow night is when we play live. I’m not actually that nervous, I guess my 5+ years of band service has served me well.

Back to School?

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

&tbnhFor the last few months I have started exploring different career tracks… It all began with our community-therapist-identity-crisis at school when our job went through a lot of changes. First, the DOE decided they weren’t going to support our services on Saturdays, so that meant a schedule change for us. Not a HUGE deal for me, but mean’t change, and meant no community therapy services for about a month while they sorted things out. For those who don’t know, I did community therapy visits on saturdays (which is what i loved most about my job!) and then during the school day i taught voc/life skills to kids. So, first the day change, and then we found out that we were losing our supervisor :( which was really sad for all of us. He was the best! LOL I just googled his name and found him in the #1 spot on google images! Here’s Doug, my [sigh] former supervisor.

So, I had an identity crisis at work because so much was changing and I feared for the future of my position. Now, I have attempted going the special ed. track before but just feel that being a Homeroom Teacher isn’t for me. I love kids. I love planning activities. But teaching didn’t feel like the perfect fit. So, I was talking to my friend Shannon who is going back to school for a Masters in Library Science and she said, “you should be a childrens librarian!” . Hmm, thought I …. what a great idea! So I looked into programs and classes and felt so excited for all that field has to offer! I fell in love with the program at Simmons College for school librarianship. It feels like the perfect fit for me!

So, I have set out the apply to Simmons, only to miss the deadline. But I sent stuff in anyways, and turned out that they are considering me for the Fall. Trouble it… $900 a credit! Each class is 3 or 4 credits…you do the math, its expensive! I have already missed the deadlines for scholarships, so here I am :( However, Simmons has a job opening for a Library Assistant (fully time) which includes tuition waiver and excellent benefits….I am considering it, for the financial goodness of it :) But i have been at Lighthouse for 5 years, I am comfortable, I know the kids, and down the road would be happy being the Lighshouse School Librarian. So, i am not sure what to do! Guide me dear friends and readers :)

Awesome Weather Man

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

We sometimes watch the weather movies from accuweather.com, and there’s a guy on there that Jill and I think is hilarious. As Integ, a gaming buddy, said tonight, “That weather man is on crack.” After we watch his videos, we have a sense of being entertained, but usually cannot recall any weather-related information at all.

Here’s the one from tonight, it’s hilarious!
