Back Up

Monday, May 30th, 2005

I just found out that our sites must have been down a large part of the day. Oops! Apparently the wireless dohickey was down, I don’t know why. I think I’ll have to write a script that ensures it’s up all the time.

Last night Ben and I celebrated our anniversary! 4 years! :) We went out for dinner and a movie, that being star wars. I had a special attachment to yoda, largely thanks to Kmart, who declared me the winner of a life-sized plush yoda doll! Look for our lisiting for it soon on ebay! yoda rocks!

Golf Marathon

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

Today was the golf marathon! Up at 5 AM and off to Holden. We golfed for hours and hours – 100 holes to raise money for Young Life. Having never golfed before, it was quite a challenge. I did have a cute caddy though. It was about 40ยบ and raining all day, so we were soaking wet and cold most of the time. We mostly went around with Chip and Liz, volunteer leaders from our area. Chip is good at golfing and gave me some pointers. I actually did pretty well the 10% of the time I hit the ball. Also towards the end I was hitting 4-5 balls at once on the same hole. It would have taken 2 days otherwise, I think.

We finished sometime after lunch, and we got some prizes donated by various busineses. Some of the prizes were free lodging for a vacation, helicopter rides, a corvette for the day, and tons of others. Jill and I ended up getting a lobster bake for two, free outdoor photography sitting, free tickets to any BSO performance (back stage tour included), and a AAA free membership and gift bag. The bag was funny – it had every kind of paraphanelia you could imagine. CD case, umbrella, tape measure, maps, teddy bear, frisbee, cards, first aid kit, mug, lunch bag, poncho, and pens are just some of the things that were stuffed in there.

The first time I’d ever golfed, and hopefully my last :) That was really hard!

Ben’s Getting In Shape?

Saturday, May 21st, 2005

I started my new job this week – I’m working on learning the basics of investing and also incorporating new systems into our trading software. It’s a lot of programming, learning, and thinking! I am enjoying the challenge, and I have actually put together a semi-successful trading system based on sochastic indicators! Crazy stuff. Maybe once I’ve worked there a long time I can become an investor!

Also, the programmer where I used to work is a runner, and there’s a track right next to where we work. I ran a mile yesterday! Yay me! We went slow enough so that it was acutally not too hard. I don’t think I would have done it by myself, it helps to have someone to pace you and go with you.

More than jokes

Monday, May 16th, 2005

Recentlly our nephew Nathan asked, “when you are sick does Ben take care of you?” . I answered by telling him that yes, when i am not feeling well he helps take care of me. With a sigh of relief Nathan said, “oh good, i thought all he did was do jokes!” Sometimes it mignt seem like that – but today he starts his new job! Ubu and I are really proud of him! Nathan too :)

Job for Ben?

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

Yesterday I interviewed at a place that’s 8 minutes away from where we live. Ironically, the office where I sat is 30 feet from where my old boss sits! It’s the same building – and in a few weeks the company is moving into the SAME PLACE that I used to work! I got to see all my old DataMetrics friends yesterday, which was a fun reunion. If I end up working there I’ll see about as much of them as I did when I worked there.

Margaret is the person who filled my spot at the company. My old cubicle looks a lot different now – it actually looks like someone is doing something productive there.

A Great Weekend

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Last night I got home from Young Life and was just so grateful for our good weekend. We didn’t go anywhere or do anything exciting, but just to be home and relax and finish organizing was awesome. This has been such an awesome move, b/c I thought it was going to be stressful, but Ben and I have been able to really work as a team and it is such an answer to prayer! yay :) My big project of the weekend was preparing for the YL talk. I was talking on a new topic (a hard one!) and wasn’t sure if I was going to do a good job. But I did my best preparing and delivered it last night. It was one in which you leave feeling grateful that God could use you. The kids seemed receptive and I felt like it went off well. So, it was a great weekend and now I am off to school to start the week!
